About Us
The Recreation Association of Iron County (RAIC) is a nonprofit 501(c)3 organization dedicated to expanding recreational activities to the residents of Iron County.
In 2009 four individuals, Jim Cederna, Jim Quayle, Julie Melchiori, and Dennis Margoni, passionately joined forces to initially establish a place to provide free sports to the Iron County Community. Today, because of their efforts, the RAIC now offers 5 "FREE" activities; Bicycle Trails, Indoor/Outdoor Bocce, Indoor Golf Simulator, Outdoor Disc Golf and Indoor/Outdoor Pickleball for residents & visitors to enjoy.
RAIC thrives from the gracious donations from local businesses, residents and visitors alike to maintain and continue to grow our "Free" activities.

Our Programs
Our first program was indoor bocce ball. In 2010 we started a Monday night men's league after Connor Sports in Amasa built us two indoor courts in room 306 at the Windsor Center. Our attendance has grown with 2-3 days a week of optional play for men & women alike. In the summer months we turn to the outdoor court in Capsian Mi.
Our pickleball program began in 2011 when Bob Williams, Karen Williams and Dennis Margoni conducted a clinic at the Windsor Center. With the ease of learning there were people playing games in no time at all. The emphasis was on a fun way to get exercise and to meet new people. This was the beginning of what has become one of the most widely participated recreational activities in the Iron County area.
In 2016 we started planning an indoor golf learning center, culminating with a $30,000 simulator. Mike Stafford is coordinating activities for the golf center which is currently in operation and available for use at the Windsor Center.
A biking trail, established by the efforts & persistence of Benjamin Garcia under the Iron County Trail Club, is the Mirkwood Bike Trail. The Trail head can be located just next to West Iron County School. Grab your fat bike or mountain and enjoy the 0.53 miles loop filled with a canopy of trees to keep you shaded during those summer months.
The Tailing Disc Golf course is located along the Iron River adjacent to the Apple Blossom trail. Grab your friends to challenge your disc golf skills while traversing the old mining property. Take in the beauty of nature as you stroll through a variety of Blue & Red tees.
